LEAD GUITAR
Kenny Thompson (aka “Mangrove”) is only fifteen, but the soul in his fingers comes from the wisdom of the ages. His quiet, reserved demeanor belies the furious intensity of his guitar work. His guitar influences include the masters of classic rock such as Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, to shred-masters such as Paul Gilbert and whoever the hell else is a great shredder. His thoughtful solos are the perfect counterpoint to Patrick’s introspective lyrics.
He has benefited greatly from the tutelage of two excellent guitar teachers at the Village Music Store in Deerfield: Mike Vanier and Jeff Bella. In addition to his rock-based guitar, Mangrove is actively pursuing other genres: jazz and classical guitar as well as more experimental rock.
Kenny met Patrick when they were both at Holy Cross grade school in Deerfield, Illinois. Kenny is now a freshman at Deerfield High School, where he is active in the music scene, playing with the Jazz Lab Band and performing at the monthly open-mike night Good Karma Café.
He also played freshman football and is having a great time as a hurdler on the track team with his older brother, Ryan. His favorite food is a Chipotle steak burrito.
LEAD VOCALS & GUITAR
Patrick Lyons is fourteen years old. He began his musical journey before he was born when his five months' pregnant mother Angie Lyons sang and danced at the dinner theater Tommy's Garage in downtown Chicago. Despite his youth, Patrick is an accomplished guitarist and lead vocalist, and has penned three original songs (Her, Fly Away, and Insecurity) for Minor Chaos. Patrick has been greatly influenced by the Beatles, Green Day, Nirvana, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
After a few unsuccessful projects, Patrick formed Minor Chaos after a few jam sessions with Kenny. He then brought in his longtime friend, Tom Bonadies, a classically trained pianist, who eagerly agreed to play bass guitar. Last but not least, Patrick asked Louis Lovacheff, a former baseball teammate, to play drums.
Patrick will attend Loyola Academy next fall. Patrick's other passions include tennis, golf, skiing, cooking, and hassling his two siblings John William (11) and Mackenzie (6). His favorite food, besides chocolate, is Mom's pasta with shrimp.
DRUMS & PERCUSSION
Louis Lovacheff is 14 years old. After playing saxophone for 2 years, he started drumming in his grade school band. He gave up school band shortly afterwards feeling it wasn’t enough of a challenge. He began taking lessons at one of the local music stores, but soon switched to lessons under the accomplished Chuck Schwartz and it shows. Under Chuck’s guidance, Louis’ natural rhythm has turned him into a drumming machine. He currently plays on a seven piece Ludwig Accent, but is always on the lookout to expand his set. His influences are The Reverend from Avenged Sevenfold and the immortal Buddy Rich.
After a couple of unsuccessful attempts at trying to start a band, he received a call from Patrick Lyons. Lou and Patrick had played baseball together and Patrick remembered Lou was a drummer. The band Patrick was forming needed a drummer so Lou joined in on a couple of sessions. The rest, as they say, is history.
Louis will attend Deerfield High School in the fall. He continues to be involved in sports, playing baseball and basketball, he’s an active Boy Scout but his real passion in addition to drumming is skateboarding. Besides his mom’s Lemon Parmesan Chicken, his favorite food is Chipotle chicken & rice burrito; just chicken & rice.
BASS
At 13 years old, Tom “T-Bone” Bonadies is the youngest member of Minor Chaos. Despite his youth, he has a pronounced passion for rock music. Tom’s introduction and knowledge of music started with the piano at age 7. He then, after encouragement form longtime friend Patrick Lyons, took his knowledge of the bass line and became Minor Chaos’ bass guitarist. Within weeks of joining the band, he developed a love of the bass guitar. His inspiration comes from his fellow band members as well as longtime rock legends: Jimi Hendrix, Led Zepplin, Green Day, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Tom is actively involved in music at his middle school. He plays bass guitar in the Jazz band and baritone in the school’s Symphonic band. Additionally, he loves football, wrestling, and tennis.
